Journalist Shahnaz Pakravan talks about her new programme on BBC that will educate the West about the Arab world

This is the timeless - if rather graphic - rule which Shahnaz Pakravan, a Dubai-born international broadcast journalist, expounded over mint tea during an interview with Gulf News in the majlis of her Jumeirah home.

Despite her lack of sleep the night before (she was up and down with her nine-year-old daughter Ayesha suffering from an on-and-off fever), she talked quite animatedly about her new "baby", Arab World Direct.

Conceptualised and produced by a team of highly-experienced professionals brought together by Dubai-based Al Arabiya Productions, the first of six episodes of the current affairs magazine programme will go on air on BBC World in the wee hours (1.30am) of August 1, UAE time, and repeated throughout the week.
